Bacille calmette guerin

BCG vaccine provides immunity or protection against tuberculosis (TB). The vaccine may be given to persons at high risk of developing TB. It is also used to treat bladder tumors or bladder cancer. BCG , or bacille Calmette-Guerin , is a vaccine for tuberculosis (TB) disease.


Many foreign-born persons have been BCG-vaccinated.

Bacillus Calmette–Guérin ( BCG ) vaccine is a vaccine primarily used against tuberculosis (TB). In countries where tuberculosis or leprosy is common, one dose is recommended in healthy babies as close to the time of birth as possible. Commonly abbreviated BCG , it is an attenuated (weakened) version of a bacterium called Mycobacterium bovis which is closely related to Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the agent responsible for tuberculosis. Large meta‐analyses have shown that bacille Calmette‐Guérin (BCG) therapy is associated with a reduction in the risk of tumor progression compared with chemotherapy. BCG was also shown to be superior to chemotherapy in reducing tumor recurrence.


The knowledge that disease-modifying therapies work best when used early in the demyelinating process raises the question about whether to try this approach - which is safe, cheap and handy - in individuals with radiologically isolated syndrome (RIS).

Despite high vaccination coverage rates, tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the world’s most lethal infectious diseases and the greatest cause of mortality by a single infectious agent.
