Autoimmune polyendocrine syndromes (APSs), also called polyglandular autoimmune syndromes (PGASs) or polyendocrine autoimmune syndromes (PASs), are a heterogeneous group of rare diseases characterized by autoimmune activity against more than one endocrine organ, although non-endocrine organs can be affected.


Autoimmune gastrointestinal diseases are common among patients with primary immunodeficiency diseases, particularly patients with CVI CG IPEX, X-linked Agammaglobulinemia (XLA), APECE WAS, Omenn syndrome , NEMO deficiency and others.

This is likely due to the fact that the intestines are constantly bathed in bacteria, bacterial products and foo which all have the potential to cause irritation of the intestinal lining (the mucosa).
