What are the long term effects of rubella? What complications can rubella cause for pregnant women? In rare cases, rubella can cause serious problems, including brain infections and bleeding problems.

The most serious complication from rubella infection is the harm it can cause a pregnant woman’s developing baby. If an unvaccinated pregnant woman gets infected with rubella virus she can have a miscarriage, or her baby can die just after birth. Once you've had the disease, you're usually permanently immune.

Rubella is a mild infection. Some women with rubella experience arthritis in the fingers, wrists and knees, which generally lasts for about one month. Babies born from mothers who had rubella early in pregnancy can face a number of problems. They can have eye problems (cataracts), deafness, heart problems, and brain damage.

Complications of rubella. Possible benign polyarteritis with lesions of small and medium joints, thrombocytopenic purpura. Encephalitis can be combined with thrombocytopenic purpura. In some rare cases, complications can get up to brain infections and bleeding problems.

It is a contagious disease.

If a pregnant woman contracts rubella , the unborn child may have some severe problems that can be fatal in some cases. Approximately of the babies whose mothers had rubella during the first trimester of pregnancy develop a condition known as congenital rubella syndrome. This can cause problems including. Having rubella during pregnancy increases the risk of: Congenital rubella syndrome (CRS) – This is a condition that happens when a mother passes rubella.

Miscarriage – This is when a baby dies in the womb before weeks of pregnancy. Stillbirth – This is when a baby dies in the womb after 20. Young girls and women who get it can develop sore joints ( arthritis ). This side effect usually goes away within 2weeks, but a small number of women will have it long term. It rarely occurs in men and children.

It usually gets better in about week. The main symptom of rubella is a red or pink spotty rash. Severe complications of rubella include: Brain inflammation ( encephalitis ). Women who acquire rubella during pregnancy should be managed in consultation with experts in fetal-maternal medicine and infectious diseases. This is because the rubella virus can disrupt the development of the baby and cause a wide range of health problems, including: eye problems – such as cataracts (cloudy patches on the lens of the eye). Adverse reactions of arthritis, arthralgia and paresthesia were reported two to eight weeks later.

Paresthesia was a very prominent complaint and showed a peculiar diurnal pattern. German measles, also known as rubella, is a viral infection that causes a red rash on the body. Aside from the rash, people with German measles usually have a fever and swollen lymph nodes.

The infection can spread from person to person through contact with droplets from an infected person’s sneeze or cough. It occurs most commonly in young children but can affect anyone. The virus can be transmitted to the fetus through the placenta and is capable of causing serious congenital defects, abortions, and stillbirths.

More common complications of measles include: diarrhoea and vomiting, which can lead to dehydration.
