Describe the immune system

What is the immune system called? The white blood cells are a key component. Here, we explain how it works, and the cells, organs. In majority of the cases, the immune system performs and excellent job of preventing diseases and infections and keep us healthy.


You’ve heard of your immune system.

But how much do you know about it? There’s a good reason to find out. When you understand everything that it does for you, and how everyday things affect it. Most antigens are proteins that serve as the stimulus to produce an immune response.

Common autoimmune diseases include type diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and inflammatory bowel disease. Many cells and organs work together to protect the body. The immune (ih-MYOON) system attacks germs and helps keep us healthy.


White blood cells, also called leukocytes (LOO-kuh-sytes), play an important role in the immune system. An immune deficiency disease occurs when the immune system is not working properly.

If you are born with a deficiency or if there is a genetic cause, it is called primary immunodeficiency disease. Allergies are the result of your immune system ’s response to a substance. Immune responses can be mil from coughing and a runny nose, to a life-threatening reaction know as anaphylaxis.


A person becomes allergic when their body develops antigens against a substance. Upon repeated exposure the.
