Rubeola rash

How do I recognize a rubella rash? Is rubeola same as measles? How is rubella transmitted?

Rubeola ( measles ) is an infection caused by a virus that grows in the cells lining the throat and lungs. It’s a very contagious disease that spreads through the air whenever someone who is infected coughs or sneezes. People who catch the measles develop symptoms such as a fever, cough, and runny nose.

Symptoms may include: Hacking cough. Redness and irritation of the eyes. Small red spots with white centers appear on the inside of the cheek. Rash - deep, re flat rash that starts on the face and spreads down to the trunk, arms, and legs.

Conjunctivitis (pink eye). Deep, re flat rash that starts on the face and spreads down to the trunk, arms,. The early phase has symptoms of fever, lethargy, cough, conjunctivitis, runny nose and loss of appetite.

It causes a re blotchy rash. It is also known as 10-day measles or red measles.

The measles virus lives in the mucus in the nose and throat. It spreads easily person to person, causes red blotchy rash along with other symptoms. The rash of rubeola (regular measles) is a full-body red or reddish-brown rash. However the first symptom is usually a hacking cough, runny nose and high fever. Additionally, a common marker found in measles are Koplik spots, which appear in the mouth as small red spots with blue white centers.

Protect yourself and your family with the MMR vaccine. If you haven’t been vaccinated and are in a room with someone who has measles, you have a chance of getting it. Part of what makes measles so dangerous is that you can be contagious days before you get the telltale rash. So you could easily spread the virus without knowing you have it. A person with measles can spread the virus to others from one to two days before any symptoms begin (or three to five days before the rash ) to four days after the rash appears.

In younger children, complications include middle ear infection (otitis media), pneumonia, croup and diarrhea. In atypical measles, the rash begins on the extremities and progresses towards the trunk. The rash may itch and also have a vesicular component. Measles typically causes moderate illness. Nodular pneumonia may be seen, along with hepatosplenomegaly, neurological symptoms, such as weakness and paresthesias, and high fever.

These patients are not contagious to others. Rubella virus can spread up to one week after infection while measles spreads for longer than one week. Rubella causes a mild disease while measles causes severe symptoms.

Rash spreads centrifugally in both diseases.

Over the next few days, the rash spreads down the arms and trunk, then over the thighs, lower legs and feet. At the same time, the fever rises sharply, often as high as 1to 105.
