Lewy body dementia ( LBD ) is a disease associated with abnormal deposits of a protein called alpha-synuclein in the brain. My mother is and has lewey body dementia. She has a sore on her heel that won t heal and becomes infected. She takes Exelon patch and Seniment. We also see abnormalities in the MRI revealing vascular disease. The Dat scan is normal for lower body PD caused by vascular causes as well as by NPH.
