Can Valium help in migraine treatment? How does valproate sodium relieve migraines? The use of intravenous valproic acid has been studied as a possible treatment for acute migraine. Available studies are small, mostly open-label and non-placebo-controlle and used variable doses. Divalproex sodium is approved by the Food and Drug Administration for the prevention of migraine headaches.


There are also other indications for valproic acid like bipolar disorder , and seizures. When using valproic acid for migraines there are definitely a few things to think about clinically.
