Types of immunization

What immunizations should adults have? What are the types of vaccination? Is natural active immunity an example of immunization?


Live vaccines use a weakened (or attenuated) form of the germ that causes a disease. Killed viruses or bacteria. These contain a toxin produced. Diphtheria , tetanus and. Hepatitis B vaccine (HepB).


Another vaccine made using genetic engineering is the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. Two types of HPV vaccine are available—one provides protection against two strains of HPV, the other four—but both are made in the same way: for each strain, a single viral protein is isolated. It was called Smallpox vaccine as it gave the protection against Smallpox virus. Interestingly, the vaccine was composed of an attenuated form of Cowpox virus , which is a similar virus to Smallpox virus.

Immunization shots, or vaccinations, are essential. They protect against things like measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, polio, diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (whooping cough).


All vaccines contain an active component (the antigen) which generates the protective immune response. They contain antigen that may be a weakened or killed form of the disease-causing organism, or fragments of the organism. Vaccines may also contain additional components.


There are a few different types of vaccines. They include: Attenuated (weakened) live viruses are used in some vaccines such as in the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine. Toxoid vaccines contain an inactivated toxin produced by the bacterium. For example, the diphtheria and tetanus vaccines are toxoid vaccines. Sometimes the whole of microbe is given while only antigen from the microbe is given.


Live vaccine : As the name indicates, the vaccine is made of the real microbe which has been made weak and devoid of virulence. The following types of vaccines are commonly available: Flu vaccine: Protection again some flu viruses. Recombinant, conjugate toxoids, accellular. Inactivated whole, attenuated.


Produced using genetic engineering techniques, where other microbes are genetically altered and made into vaccines with antigenic properties. Similar to other types of vaccinations, there’s a risk of side effects with the flu shot. Common side effects may include tenderness or redness at the injection site.
