National immunization awareness month

Use NIAM to raise awareness in your practice, about why vaccines are important and how they prevent serious, sometimes deadly, diseases. This observance provides the opportunity to remind the community of the importance of immunization. Make sure that your family and friends are up-to-date on their immunizations. Communities across the country use the month each year to raise awareness about the important role vaccines play in preventing serious, sometimes deadly, diseases across the lifespan.


Immunizations or vaccines are medical preparations given to individuals to help improve the body’s resistance to a particular disease.

Shots, or vaccines, help prevent dangerous and sometimes deadly diseases. Today the rates for most vaccine-preventable diseases are at record or near-record lows. But these diseases still exist. This annual observance highlights the importance of getting recommended vaccines throughout your life. You have the power to protect yourself and your family against serious diseases – like measles, whooping cough, cancers caused by HPV, and many more – with vaccines.
